We support progressive policies and candidates.
From Chuck Stangor:
It’s been a tough couple of days for Democrats. The news: Our forward progress toward the goals we hold dear has been stopped and may well be reversed over the next four years. The candidate that we counted on, Kamala Harris, has lost. This is truly a time for mourning.
Our thoughts go a million ways as we review the campaign, the election, and the outcome. We talk with our friends and families and we share our grief. We express our anger and our sadness.
But we also move on; we keep working for the goals we care about; we must not let the results of one election deter us. We’ve been stymied before — many times — and there have been many setbacks; but we’ve made so much progress over the past years. We can and we will make more.
I’d like to thank each and every one of you who volunteered in this election. We saturated the county with our messages; we talked to new people; we learned; and we created a database for future work. Our work was heartfelt and important, but ultimately not enough.
I’d also like to invite you each to reach out to Cameron Schroy, Beth Farnham, and Janelle Stelson, three candidates who campaigned smartly and valiantly, giving up months of their lives to help us. Their altruism is unmatched. I think they would appreciate a word of thanks.

Nicholas Kristoff from the New York Times shared an op-ed entitled “My Manifesto for Despairing Democrats.” I encourage you to read it in full.
Kristoff encourages us to accept the outcome of the election, and to support organizations that promote human rights, including the ACLU, Planned Parenthood, international humanitarian aid nonprofits, and trustworthy news organizations.
And he tells us to fight misogyny and racism wherever we see it.
I resonated particularly with Kristoff’s call for “Blue places to govern themselves better.” He says Democrats have frequently “dropped the ball” on education, homelessness, poverty, and housing. But he reminds us that local municipalities, and this includes Gettysburg and Adams County, can still find new ways to do these things better. We should, we can, and we must.
And, finally, Kristoff encourages us all to put our own masks on first, by protecting our physical and mental health. There are so many good things around us; let’s focus on the positive and don’t let our grief overwhelm us.
Next up for Adams are the 2025 municipal and school board races. Do you care enough about your county and your neighbors to run for office? We need you; We will help. Learn more here. Please say yes and reply to this message to tell us about your interests.
A message from Marcia Wilson, ACDC
Words fail me, as all the likely effects on us, our country and our world swirl around me. In 2016, I cried and then vowed to do more and better. I am not crying today, but my granddaughters are, and I must do more and better for them! This is an unbelievable situation with potential ramifications for so many of our families and friends. Who knew so many of our fellow citizens would vote to elect this person again? Our challenge is to understand and find ways to ease the attitudes that caused them to vote as they did, and to re-double our efforts to get those who believe as we do to vote. I wish I could send you encouragement, but just now, I can only urge calm and reasoned reactions while we chart our forward course. We need every one in our circle to continue working for our ideals and goals – to not let discouragement or anger keep us from our work – and to protect one another in what is likely to become an unfriendly or hostile environment for all of us, and especially for certain communities. Know that your Democratic Committee will continue to be a presence and a safe place for kindred souls. We need your involvement.
